Despite the fact that I live mere blocks from Rodeo Drive, I’m relatively unfazed by news pertaining to the relationships of celebrities. Given that information, you can imagine my embarrassment when I nearly shrieked with delight when I found out that Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling were seen cuddling over breakfast in Toronto on Thursday(especially because he no longer looks like this). Maybe it was that kiss they shared in the rain from ‘The Notebook’ that made me become so invested in their love, but nonetheless, it got me thinking:
What are my top 5 favorite movie kisses?

5. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” - Good movie? Eh. Hot bathroom make-out session? Very.
4. “Unfaithful”- Any movie that deems Richard Gere the ‘ugly’ one has got to be steamy.
3. “Notting Hill” - When the mega-movie star plants one on Hugh’s lips, it makes anything feel possible.
2. “Love Actually” - A man that travels to a country to declare his love for a woman in a language he doesn’t speak is a winner in my book.
1. “The Notebook” - Water makes anything more sensual, so when Ryan scoops her up in a storm, it’s the perfect culmination of events.
What’s your favorite kissing scene from a movie?

My week
Taunted by the fluorescent lighting in my cubicle and a four-day weekend approaching, I planned a weekend away at the Viceroy in Palm Springs. Under normal circumstances, I might find 107° to be a bit on the uncomfortable [read: unbearable] side, but the dry heat of the desert is completely therapeutic. The decor of the Viceroy is reason alone to be excited, with its citrus-lined pools and Kelly Wearstler-designed interiors, so I’ve taken it upon myself to find some good last minute sales of the season so that I can sunbathe in style.
Since Trina Turk’s first boutique opened in Palm Springs, it’s only fitting that she would be my go-to for my trip this weekend. Inspired by the landscape of California, her pieces are always bursting with vibrant colors in shapes that are both casual and chic. Her Short Helena Strapless Dress is no exception, with a gentle draping down the front that will be a perfect transitional piece for going from the pool and out to lunch.
I always imagine that I’ll become one of those girls that lies under the shade of an umbrella by the pool just reading a book and sipping mojitos, but that’s never the case. Instead, I splash around in the water the entire time and usually end up with quite a lovely burn. For instances like these, flowy pieces in breathable fabrics are best, which is why Alice + Olivia’s Trapeze Pleat Bottom Dress is a great choice. I’d pair it with some metallic heels like these, a swipe of charcoal eye liner and some silver hoops for a sultry evening look.
For a normal hotel breakfast, I might show up to the continental spread of boxed cereals in sweats and flip-flops, but I have a feeling that’s not exactly the case at the Viceroy. Instead, I want to appear fresh-faced and radiant so my clear choice was this Leaves of Grass Voyage Tunic Dress. The white embroidery adds a fun, vintage touch and I’d throw on some earthy flats to complete the warm-weather ensemble.

Despite the zipper’s potentially dangerous aftermath [read: Ben Stiller’s bathroom scene from ‘Something About Mary,’] it’s a ridiculously useful tool and as of late, a rather seductive addition when executed in a non-traditional way.
This Acne Jeans Zipper Charm Dress has a zipper that runs down the entire front, for a rather suggestive vibe that’s perfectly offset by the loose pockets. For nighttime, I’d pair this with a bra in a jewel-tone color and some black booties. Extra bonus if you’re a size 4 or 8 since it’s 50% off at La Garconne, a great online resource for under-the-radar brands.
Alexander McQueen’s Exposed Zip Tank is just the piece I’ve been looking for to pair with my closet full of pencil skirts for Fall. I love the black-lined zipper that runs down the spine since it complements the bright cherry color in such a dramatic way. Since $213 is astronomical for a simple tank, I only wish I had the skills to buy a zipper from JoAnn’s and apply one myself.
I’m crazy about nearly every piece in Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent’s clothing line, so it’s no surprise that her Allison Zip Front Platform Bootie is now on my wish list. I love that the zipper is a focal point with a matching little tassel that zips down towards the toes. With dark, textured tights and a plaid skirt, this would be such a lovely homage to prep-school chic.

When it comes to belts, they certainly have other purposes besides just holding up a pair of Levis. They’re an excellent way to add a bit of edge to an outfit, either with a low slung, braided belt in the Summer or a more refined, waist-cinching option in the cooler months. Despite the plethora of candy colored choices available now, I like the idea of finding black belts that stand out simply because of their intricate detailing.
Linea Pelle’s Leather 2 1/2″ Contour Waist Belt is simple in its construction with an over sized buckle, but it’s the antiqued gold hardware that give it that hand-me-down feel. I love that it’s thick, so that when thrown over a white collared shirt, it adds a substantial piece of hardware that also creates a slimming silhouette.
I’m not usually one for obvious labels on clothing and accessories, but the double C’s of this Chloe Heloise Belt has won my affection. I even like the fact that the size can’t be adjusted since it gives the illusion that the belt is custom-fit. It would be perfect for tempering a billowy blouse in a paisley print.
I’m crazy about this Studded Double Wrap Leather Belt since it combines two of my current obsessions: studs and layering. As a proud owner of a wrap belt, which I wore several days ago here, they truly add an entirely different dimension to an outfit. I like the stud detailing on this one that isn’t overkill thanks to its diminutive width.

You would think that since I majored in Media Studies, I wouldn’t be tempted by movies like “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.” This is not the case. Luckily, my best friend shares the same affinity for girl bonding movies and she’s agreed to accompany me tonight for some popcorn and unrealistic story lines. The notion that these four friends can all squeeze into the same pair of jeans truly behooves me considering my Citizens of Humanity certainly don’t have the same kind of stretch. Since I don’t plan on sharing my denim, I’ve found three pairs that fit my criteria for Fall: high-waisted and flared, skinny and dark and loose and distressed.
Grey Ant’s high-waisted Welt Jean has a sophisticated silhouette that more closely resembles a pair of trousers. The slightly flared legs are sure to make any one’s thighs appear smaller by comparison and the fitted waist makes for the perfect canvas to tuck inflowy blouses. Just hold the braids in your hair and fringed bags so you don’t look too Flower Child.
When skinny jeans first emerged back on the scene a few years back, I was reluctant to try this unforgiving style due to my rather curvy legs. It wasn’t until a stylish friend suggested I look at them more as a pair of comfy leggings instead of like any regular denim. Since then, I’ve been hooked, and J Brand’s 10″ Ankle Skinny Stretch Jean is far and away the best out there. Whether worn with comfy flats on the weekend, sexy pumps at night or tucked neatly into riding boots, they’re amazingly versatile and surprisingly comfortable.
Since my boyfriend would probably be creeped out if he found me in a pair of his jeans, Gap’s Long and Lean Jeans are a fantastic alternative. With gentle distressing at the top and a slim, relaxed fit, I know I’d have a hard time tearing myself out of these. Additionally, for those of you anxious about recreating Katie’s new look, these would most definitely suffice.

My loyal readers can attest that I’m a huge fan of Forever 21, especially when it comes to accessorizing. I figure that this way, I can save up for more classic staples and not feel bad about spending money on such trendy pieces. This works in theory, but I have yet to stick to a budget that allows for any extravagant purchases due to my lack of discipline. I think if I set my eye on the prize ahead of time, I’ll make smarter decisions so that when it comes time to whip out my wallet, there will be no hesitations (or credit card debt). I’ve included three shoes, all of which would play a pivotal part in my wardrobe, yet for entirely different reasons. I’ve picked a casual classic heel, a pair for work and then a great shoe for parties.

I almost always opt for the cheaper alternative when it comes to ridiculously expensive shoes, but there’s no denying the incredible construction of these Christian Louboutin somewhere pumps. Even from Barney’s website, you can clearly make out the rich, Nappa leather and its seductive curves. Plus, in a deep camel color, these would literally add some much needed inches to my legs and a dose of glamor to every outfit.
My mom would seriously cringe if she read this, but for a pair of Manolos, this leather pump is relatively reasonable for $555. Whether worn with a pencil skirt or some dark denim, these would make the process of getting dressed for work all the more enjoyable.
Carrie Bradshaw revolutionized the term ‘strappy sandal,’ but I couldn’t help but fall for these Prada scalloped peep toe pumps for my ideal evening shoe. They’re sturdy enough to go dancing, but the delicate details at both the toe and the heel make these unbelievably feminine.
What are your thoughts on breaking the bank for a pair of shoes?

Up until recently, I had never fully embraced the idea of online shopping. I felt like the experience of sauntering through stores and running my fingers over the fabrics would get lost with the click of a mouse. Then I discovered Gilt Groupe. I’ve mentioned it before, but not until the arrival of my Mint Jodi Arnold Pleated Miniskirt this morning (a lovely $88 down from $264) did I truly appreciate the beauty of indulging myself with zero effort. Gilt Groupe certainly plays into my competitive nature, seeing as how every brand only goes on sale for a mere 36 hours, making my Mint Jodi Arnold find all the more rewarding.

I’ve already decided that little bubble skirts are going to be my official uniform for Fall and I absolutely adore this one’s preppy pleats and ruching on the bottom. Of course I put it on immediately and paired it with a Forever 21 top, my favorite vintage belt, my grandfather’s gold bracelet and my Alberta Ferretti Philosophy wooden sandals.
Since Gilt Groupe is invite only, just include your email address in a comment if you’d like me to grant you access!

After what seemed like weeks of painting and touch-ups, our wall is officially done (with minimal red-splattered carpeting to match). After the Venetian blinds were taken down, it became evident just how much they took away, both aesthetically and functionally. The new drapes, which are a greenish-khaki, not only complement the color of the wall, but let in an incredible amount of natural light. Lastly, our West Elm cube cut-out dresser arrived, which means that my wardrobe is no longer confined to laundry baskets. The one question remains:

How to decorate the immense amount of space above the dresser?

The transition from Summer to Fall usually involves dusting off boxes of sweaters and replacing the contents with heaps of dresses. Not this season. Instead, I’m eager to incorporate my warm-weather pieces with the help of some textured tights, flat boots and patterned scarves. Below are some floral dresses that all have the potential to be regulars in my Fall wardrobe.
This Kimchi Blue Botanical Dress has such wonderful, vintage appeal and despite its floral pattern, the muted colors make it completely appropriate for Autumn. I’d pair it with a floppy beanie and some bright red tights.
The black and floral pairing on the Victoria Dress is perfect for a Summer music festival, but when paired with a cream-colored boyfriend cardigan and patent belt, it could easily transition to cooler temperatures.
The periwinkle color of this Ditsy Ruffle Front Dress and flutter sleeves just begs to be offset with a thick, studded belt and riding boots.

Inspired by the feature, ‘10 Things that Make me Happy,’ in Domino Magazine, I decided to compile my own list.

1. Hunter Rain Boots - The fantastically bright colors of these classic wellies are enough to put a smile on my face. Extra points for jumping in puddles.
2. Bagel and Cream Cheese - Bagels were a family tradition on Sunday mornings, so this comfort food is still a breakfast staple.
3. Gardenias - These sweet, velvety flowers are so simple and I love their stark white petals.
4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - Go figure that my favorite book as a child revolved around food. If you haven’t read this, you must.
5. Spectacles - My vision is close to perfect, but I’ve always dreamed of wearing glasses. Of course, I had the same feelings about retainers until I had to wear one for two years in elementary school. Lisps don’t suit me.
6. OPI Lincoln Park After Dark - I’m quite fickle when it comes to nail polish colors, but this color remains top on my list. It behooves me why guys can’t grasp the idea that there’s a clear distinction between deep, deep purple and black.
7. Fall Colors - Autumn is my favorite time of year and nothing marks its arrival like the changing of leaves.
8. Poloroids - There’s something so whimsical about poloroid photographs. When I was little, I was absolutely charmed by the idea that I could wave around a piece of paper that would magically transform into an image.
9. Candy Corn - These waxy little candies are so fun to eat and remind me of my most treasured holiday, Halloween.
10. Crayola Crayons - My artistic skills are non-existent, but the smell and sight of a brand new box of crayons always makes me feel like there are no limits to my abilities.

For those of you who have yet to visit Los Angeles, jot down the name ‘Urth Caffe,’ since it’s not to be missed. Unlike most other eateries that are arbitrarily coined as hip, this place actually deserves the praise. Since this morning was abnormally chilly, my boyfriend and I decided to forgo our exercise plans in lieu of going out for breakfast. The coffee at Urth is rich, yet unbelievably smooth and each cup is a work of art. My Italia Cappuccino came with foam in the shape of a bird, and his Moroccan Mint Tea Latte was transformed into a floral shape. The food is equally as impressive, with all organic ingredients and one of the prettiest lox spreads I’ve ever seen.

The clothing store, Martin + Osa, mysteriously appeared at the Century City shopping mall some time ago, yet it was only last week that I truly began to appreciate its feminine, yet structured pieces. After dissecting the September issue of Lucky, I came across a dress that I simply had to have. Though I couldn’t make out the top of it since it was paired with a simple cardigan, I knew it had a classic cut that screamed old Hollywood. Then, like magic, I nearly bumped into a mannequin in Martin + Osa wearing this:
The cut is totally timeless, and with hour-glass shaped rouching in the middle, it’s the perfect canvas for a skinny, patent belt. It’s still too early to wear something made of wool (hello 90° weather), but I’ve gone ahead and dedicated a separate little place in my closet for this dress just so it doesn’t get lonely these next two months.

My weekend:
The process of redecorating a living space that appeals to both my boyfriend and myself has proven to be a less daunting task than I had previously imagined. During the move, when my vintage chandelier was tossed, I was a bit skeptical that our place would resemble an area in which a woman’s presence could be detected, but that’s been far from the case. We’ve known for a while that we wanted to paint the main wall in our living room a deep red, and we finally decided on Ralph Lauren’s Amalfi Red. Though we’ve still got another coat to finish, I’m floored with the dramatic effect it’s had on the entire room. Contrary to popular belief, the space actually seems larger and I can’t wait to accessorize with my vintage collection of gold-framed mirrors that survived the move.

My apologies for the poor quality of this photograph, but it was too relevant not to include. I guess you could say I was ahead of the game back in ‘86 when I modeled animal-print swimwear (with the the attitude to match). Though I refuse to wear clothes that resemble the hide of an animal, the options I’ve included below are a fun way to liven up a pair of skinny jeans. (I’m leaning heavily towards #5)

1. Kissing Zebra Racerback Tank, Cusp: $70
2. Zebra Profile Tee, Wet Seal: $12.50
3. Giraffe Tee, dELiAs: $26.50
4. Owl Racerback Tunic, F21: $8.80
5. Black Horse Long Pocket Tank, Kitson: $145
6. Zebra Tank Top, J. Ransom: $72
Would you support this trend? If so, which is your favorite?

Remember these little boots I posted on Monday? Turns out, at Endless.com, not only are they $30 less than buying through NineWest, but there’s free overnight shipping and no tax. Unbelievable, but true…just got mine in the mail this morning and I ordered them yesterday afternoon.

Despite my recent aversion to Summer, I’ve come to realize that a lot of my fashion inspiration stems from things revolving around this time of year. Take the above top from H&M, for example. Though it’s about two sizes too big (it’s clipped in the back for the picture), I bought it simply because the color reminded me of cotton candy. With this in mind, I’ve put together a couple of other pairings, all of which have been influenced by Summertime sweets.
Diane Von Furstenberg’s El Shane Tie-Dye dress has been on my radar for quite some time, thanks to its amazingly juicy colors and simple shape. Worn with a thick, braided belt and some earthy sandals, this would be a great look for an outdoor concert.
Tory Burch and S’mores….two of my greatest loves. Though I already own a pair of her orange flats, these Reva Tri Color Logo ones are even more fabulous. The pairing of three neutral colors combine to create such a classic look that is reminiscent of my all-time favorite after-barbecue dessert.

After reading Dapper Kid’s post on men’s fashion at the Teen Choice Awards, I was particularly inspired by his mention of Elijah Kelley’s crisp, checkered shirt. I’ve been tempted by this trend for quite some time, and even tried stealing one of my boyfriend’s flea market finds (see above), only to conclude that I looked like a farmer. Unfortunately, I think I lack that certain edge that comes in the form of excessive chains, bracelets piled up to my elbow and an attitude that smells like teen spirit. But since I so desperately want to incorporate plaid into my wardrobe, I’ve found several alternatives to the baggy button-down.
Forever 21’s Autumn Plaid Scarf comes in a variety of classic color combinations, but I’m partial to the Charlie Brown-inspired duo of yellow and black. With the fringe detail, it adds just a touch of prep school flavor that will look great with kohl-rimmed eyes.
Gap’s plaid popover dress has me drooling. It’s got the cutest detailing with its rolled up sleeves that elicit that same feel as a loose shirt, but with a nipped waist, it eliminates that whole homeless vibe.
This plaid high-waisted skirt from Tibi takes the whole grunge look and flips it on its head. With the sweetest colors and cute little pockets, I would totally play up the whole I-just-got-done-taking-the-pie-out-of-the-oven in little espadrilles and a simple white tank.

After I spent nearly an hour debating between a pair of black or gray booties at the mall this weekend, I left the store empty-handed (well, with the exception of these). I almost always drift towards black, thanks to its infinite matching abilities, but I simply couldn’t get the idea out of my head that I was ready to try something new. So began my obsession with gray booties…
1. Nine West, Cedargrove. The shoes that started it all. The ruched front and slim fit make these a must for wearing with little jumpers come Fall.
2. Belle by Sigerson Morrison, 5631. I fell hard for the asymmetrical cut and cuff detailing.
3. Me Too, Fremont Bootie. With a wrapped heel in the softest of suede, the smoky color is so unexpected.
4. Taryn, by Taryn Rose, Dizzy. Though these booties slightly resemble a wet suit, I adore the patent leather accents with the topstitch details.
5. Chinese Laundry, Cosmos. These are reminiscent of manner of the booties I come across while scouring flea markets with the stacked heel, slightly pointed toe and zipper down the back.
6. Prada, Criss Cross Bootie. My mom used to have a pair of shoes that had stretchy straps that I made fun of incessantly. Clearly she was onto something because they add such a seductive touch and will look incredible with some opaque white tights.

As recent posts can attest, the arrival of Fall cannot come soon enough. While I eagerly anticipate trading in my dresses and sandals for chunky knits and boots, I will definitely miss the Summer produce. Yesterday my boyfriend and I made the trek over to Hollywood for the Farmers’ Market and came home with heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, yellow nectarines, grapes, basil and asparagus. All of the vibrant colors were so visually stunning that I simply had to create a collage. Additionally, my Foley + Corinna made its official debut, in all of its slouchy glory, and even gained an adoring fan who praised its ‘perfect size.’ I couldn’t have agreed more.
